More than 64,000 electricity subscribers have benefited from the Kurdistan Regional Government’s discount on debts accumulated before the Runaki project, as officials encourage customers to use electronic payment services.

The debt-relief process has continued for four days. Subscribers can settle their discounted balances in cash at electricity directorate energy sales offices or electronically through the E-Psula platform.

Dilshêr Bardarashî, supervisor of the Runaki Project, said that 62,325 subscribers had repaid their old debts. The total later rose above 64,000 as more customers completed payments.

Officials say the electronic option is faster and more convenient. They urged subscribers to avoid crowded sales offices and complete the process through E-Psula whenever possible.

Cash payment remains available for customers who prefer to visit energy sales departments. Authorities are also considering longer working hours to reduce pressure on offices and serve more people.

The Kurdistan Region has around two million electricity subscribers. So far, approximately 1.1 million have registered with the Runaki Project, representing about 60% of all customers.

Runaki now sends around 1.1 million monthly billing notifications directly to subscribers’ mobile phones. The digital system allows customers to receive bills and payment information without waiting for printed documents or visits from collection staff.

Officials said the previous system faced serious staffing shortages. Only about 3,000 accountants served nearly two million subscribers, preventing many households from receiving bills on time.

The digital platform has largely solved that problem. Once customers register, they receive their monthly bills digitally and can complete payments through electronic channels.

Project officials say the new system improves transparency, reduces delays and makes electricity payments easier. They continue to urge eligible subscribers to use the temporary debt discount before the deadline expires. The initiative also helps authorities maintain accurate records and strengthen revenue collection.
