Household liquefied petroleum gas prices have fallen sharply across the Kurdistan Region after supplies increased and market pressure eased.

At the beginning of this week, one litre of household LPG reached 850 Iraqi dinars. A standard 22-litre cylinder therefore cost about 18,750 dinars.

Jangi Majid, head of the Erbil Filling Stations Council, said on August 6 that the price had dropped to 525 dinars per litre. Under the new commercial rate, households can now refill a standard cylinder for about 12,000 dinars.

Sulaymaniyah recorded a similar decline. Omar Abdullah, head of the gas distribution committee at the Sulaymaniyah district administration, said prices started falling in the middle of the week. Commercial household gas now sells for around 550 dinars per litre in the province.

Abdullah said supply had increased so much that some distributors asked authorities to stop selling gas through the official coupon system. The committee rejected that request and decided to continue the current distribution mechanism.

Officials say the Region now has enough LPG to meet local demand. Storage facilities have also begun keeping additional quantities as a reserve.

Authorities plan to use these stocks if supplies fall again for any reason. They believe this approach can prevent shortages, reduce panic buying and limit sudden price increases.

The latest decline provides relief for families that depend on LPG for cooking and other household needs. It also shows how quickly prices can respond when supply improves.

Officials will continue monitoring production, storage and market distribution. They want to maintain stable availability while ensuring that traders do not create artificial shortages.

For now, households across the Kurdistan Region are paying significantly less to refill gas cylinders than they did at the start of the week.

The government hopes reserves will protect consumers from future disruptions and support predictable household expenses.
