Akad Brick has started production near Erbil, creating a major addition to the city’s industrial sector. The factory can produce up to 1,200 tonnes of bricks each day.
The facility sits near Qushtapa and covers more than 24 acres. It uses advanced European and Japanese technology to automate most production processes.
Company executives and investment officials describe Akad Brick as one of the largest modern brick factories in the Middle East. The plant features a 262-meter-long kiln that measures nine meters wide.
The kiln fires bricks at around 850 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the factory operates one production line that produces about 50 tonnes per hour.
The production line can manufacture five different brick sizes. At full capacity, it can produce around 1,200 tonnes within 24 hours.
Automation plays a central role in the factory. Electronic systems control most manufacturing operations, while workers mainly operate and supervise the machinery.
The company sourced key equipment from Europe and Japan. Japanese suppliers provided robotic systems, while German engineering company Siemens supplied some electronic and industrial equipment.
The factory occupies more than 100 acres, with about 30,000 square meters dedicated to production facilities. Its location also provides convenient access to raw materials.
The company sources its main production material from an area around 27 kilometers away. This short distance helps reduce transportation needs and production costs.
Akad Brick initially focused its sales on construction markets in Erbil. However, the company has expanded distribution to other cities and markets across Iraq.
The project has created about 450 direct and indirect jobs. Around 250 employees work directly at the factory, while related activities support another 200 jobs.
Local workers make up 99% of the workforce. About 95% come from nearby communities. The company has also recruited young engineers and recent university graduates.
Investment officials say the factory could reduce reliance on imported construction materials. Its large production capacity can also support local construction projects and expand domestic manufacturing.
With production now underway, Akad Brick aims to become a major supplier for construction markets. The project also highlights growing efforts to strengthen industrial production and private-sector employment in Erbil.
