A senior Iraqi military delegation arrived in Erbil to discuss security guarantees for international oil companies operating in the Kurdistan Region. The visit reflects improving relations between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and Iraq’s new federal administration.

Erbil and Baghdad have recently made progress on several key issues. They reached positive understandings on oil exports, domestic revenues, and the customs system. These agreements have increased hopes that oil production in the Kurdistan Region will resume soon.

Foreign oil companies want stronger security guarantees before they restart production. Iraqi officials have promised to provide the protection needed for oil facilities and company staff.

The delegation is led by Abdul Amir Yarallah, Iraq’s Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces. It also includes the Deputy Chief of Staff, the Commander of the Infantry Forces, the Director of Military Intelligence, and the spokesperson for the Joint Operations Command.

The Iraqi delegation will hold several meetings with senior officials in the Kurdistan Region. They will discuss ways to improve security and military coordination between federal forces and the Peshmerga Forces.

Both sides want to increase cooperation on the ground. They also aim to improve coordination in areas that require joint security efforts. A major part of the talks will focus on protecting oil fields and other energy facilities.

Officials will also review Iraq’s overall security situation. They will examine conditions in areas that hold strategic importance for both Erbil and Baghdad. They plan to discuss measures that can prevent the return of terrorist groups and strengthen regional stability.

The visit highlights growing cooperation between the federal government and the Kurdistan Region. Security guarantees for oil companies could help restart energy production and encourage new investment.

Officials believe stronger cooperation between Iraqi forces and the Peshmerga can improve security around oil installations. They also expect closer coordination to support economic recovery and strengthen long-term stability.

The meetings in Erbil could become another important step toward rebuilding trust between Baghdad and the Kurdistan Region. They may also create the conditions needed for the full resumption of oil activities in northern Iraq.
