The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) will begin distributing the sixth phase of wheat payments to farmers in the middle of this week. Officials also expect the remaining funds held by the Iraqi government to be released in the near future.
The decision to allocate the sixth payment phase was approved on June 10, 2026. The total value of this round stands at 41.45 billion Iraqi dinars. The payments will support thousands of farmers across the Kurdistan Region and form part of ongoing efforts to settle wheat procurement dues.
Under the new payment plan, farmers in Erbil will receive 13.717 billion dinars. Farmers in Sulaymaniyah will receive 16.858 billion dinars, while farmers in Duhok will receive 10.875 billion dinars.
According to official statements, the government approved the sixth payment phase last week and will start distributing the funds in the middle of this week. Authorities say they are working to ensure that farmers receive their payments as quickly as possible.
The Iraqi Minister of Trade has also reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to paying all outstanding wheat dues. The ministry said it would release the remaining funds at the earliest opportunity. The announcement has raised hopes among farmers who continue to wait for the rest of their payments.
Figures show that the total value of wheat payments owed to farmers for the 2025 season reached 301.507 billion Iraqi dinars. With the inclusion of the sixth phase, authorities have allocated 159.752 billion dinars to farmers so far.
However, a significant amount remains unpaid. The Iraqi government still holds 141.755 billion dinars that have yet to reach farmers in the Kurdistan Region. Agricultural officials expect Baghdad to transfer these funds in the upcoming stages.
The wheat sector remains a vital part of the Kurdistan Region’s economy. Timely payments help farmers prepare for the next planting season, purchase agricultural supplies, and maintain production levels. The release of the sixth phase, therefore, represents another important step toward supporting local agriculture and strengthening food security across the region.
