The Runaki project in Koyah district has officially launched, bringing hope to 39,000 electricity beneficiaries in the area. This strategic initiative aims to expand 24-hour electricity access across the Kurdistan Region.

The Runaki project is part of the ninth cabinet’s strategic plans under the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG). Its primary goal is to ensure a continuous electricity supply throughout the region. Officials say the project will cover the entire Kurdistan Region by the end of June 2026.

A source from the Ministry of Electricity of KRG confirmed that technical work has started in the Koyah district. “The Runaki project has reached Koyah, and 39,000 residents will benefit from electricity access,” the source said.

The ministry added that the project will soon expand to Shiqlawe and Piramam districts. This phase aims to provide 24-hour electricity to 34,000 beneficiaries in Shiqlawe and 24,000 in Piramam. Officials emphasized that the project will help solve electricity shortages and improve services in these districts.

Currently, around 80% of the Kurdistan population enjoys 24-hour electricity. Teams from the Runaki project are also operating in Said Sadiq, Penjwen, Qaladze, Choman, Sydekan, Mergesor, Akre, and Amadi. The project continues to expand rapidly, bringing uninterrupted electricity to more residents.

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani previously stated that the plan is to provide 24-hour electricity to every home in the Kurdistan Region by the end of 2026. However, the Runaki project has accelerated this timeline. Now, all cities and towns in the region are expected to receive continuous electricity by the end of June.

The Runaki project marks a major step in modernizing the Kurdistan Region’s electricity network. With 24-hour electricity access, residents will enjoy improved services, business growth, and a better quality of life.
