China’s Consul General in Erbil Liu Jun praised the Kurdistan Regional Government for its steady support of Chinese companies. He delivered his remarks during the Golden Technology 2 foundation ceremony. Moreover, he noted that Transsion’s mobile phone plant created more than 100 jobs. He also said the factory will soon grow with three new production lines. His comments strengthened the growing image of the Region as a strong Kurdistan investment hub.
Prime Minister Masrour Barzani laid the foundation stone for the second phase of Golden Technology 2. The project aims to expand local production of mobile phones and electronic devices. The ceremony also highlighted the international nature of the investment. Liu Jun praised the partnership between the ZMC Group and Transsion. He called the joint venture an important step for industrial growth. He also pointed to the wider economic cooperation between China and the Kurdistan Region.
Liu explained that Transsion’s assembly plant built a full production chain in only one year. The chain includes assembly, testing, and packaging. It also represents the first local production of a Chinese mobile phone brand anywhere in Iraq. The plant created more than 100 jobs. The second phase will add three new production lines. These lines will create up to 400 new opportunities. Liu called this expansion a major achievement. He said the progress shows why the Region has become a Kurdistan investment hub.
Liu also spoke about China’s national industrial policies. He said China continues to push for innovation and smart manufacturing. He noted that China keeps growing even as some countries try to slow its technology exchanges. Liu added that China moves toward stronger self-reliance in technology and industry. He stressed that China’s next Five-Year Plan focuses on manufacturing upgrades and Belt and Road cooperation. Also, he said China wants stronger ties with the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. He also said China values mutual benefit and open cooperation.
Liu described the Kurdistan Region as a promising market for foreign capital. He pointed out China’s major role in construction materials and cement production. Additionally, he said local cement plants now deliver more than half of Iraq’s total output. He added that Chinese companies can expand into solar energy, advanced manufacturing, and AI technology. These opportunities push the Region forward as a Kurdistan investment hub.
The launch of Golden Technology 2’s second phase comes during a major economic shift. The KRG now focuses on technology, data, manufacturing, and local industry. These sectors support exports, create new jobs, and reduce imports. Erbil and Duhok now attract many tech-driven projects, from data centers to cybersecurity companies. The Investment Board recorded over a dozen tech licenses since 2023. Tax incentives and simple registration rules help investors move faster.
The expansion of mobile device production fits these trends. The new factory aims to serve local demand and regional markets. It plans to export Kurdistani-assembled devices to the Middle East and North Africa. This step strengthens the Region’s role in regional supply chains. It also confirms its evolution into a stronger Kurdistan investment hub.
Economists say these projects move the Region away from an import-heavy market. They say the Region now grows into a production-driven economy. This shift supports long-term resilience. It also prepares the Region for broader industrial growth. As Golden Technology 2 expands, officials aim to position the Region as a leading center for manufacturing and innovation. They see international partnerships and skilled workers as key strengths. These efforts firmly support the Region’s role as a rising Kurdistan investment hub.
