In a significant step toward agricultural development and economic self-sufficiency in the Kurdistan Region, the foundation stone for the “Zom” Dairy Farm Project was officially laid in the Barzan region. The announcement was made by the Office of Mustafa Barzani on Sunday, May 18, 2025.
This strategic initiative forms part of the broader Zoom Project, originally proposed under the guidance of Masoud Barzani and supported by Prime Minister Masrour Barzani. It is being implemented by GEG Construction Company with a focus on enhancing local employment, strengthening domestic production, and promoting reliance on internal resources.
The Zom Dairy Farm Project encompasses four integrated components: the Zoom Dairy Farm, Zoom Agriculture Project, Zoom Veterinary Center, and Zom Market. These collectively aim to build a sustainable and comprehensive agricultural ecosystem.
Previously, the Dairy Products Factory was inaugurated on May 30, 2023, in the village of Zhazhuki, located in the Barzan region of Eastern Erbil Province. This facility was officially licensed by the Kurdistan Region Investment Board under license number 1145, dated November 21, 2022.
Constructed over an area of 13,046 square meters, the factory utilizes high-grade stainless steel equipment and currently maintains a daily production capacity of 20 tons, with scalability to reach 50 tons. Ensuring high standards of food safety and product quality, the facility also features an in-house laboratory for testing raw milk and finished dairy products.
The continued development of the Zom Project reflects a strong commitment to agricultural innovation, rural empowerment, and economic diversification within the Kurdistan Region.
