More than 700 privately operated generators have been decommissioned throughout the Kurdistan Region as part of the regional government’s ongoing lighting initiative aimed at providing uninterrupted electricity.
Aziz Ahmad, Deputy Director of the Office of the Prime Minister of the KRG, announced via the social media platform X that this initiative marks a significant step toward the government’s objective of transitioning to round-the-clock public electricity provision.
Ahmad further noted that while over 700 generators have already been shut down, an estimated 6,300 additional units are still scheduled for removal. This large-scale phase-out of diesel generators is expected to enhance environmental sustainability and reduce reliance on private electricity sources, aligning with broader goals of modernization and improved infrastructure efficiency across the Region.
