The Runaki Project has announced that more than 45,000 electricity subscribers have repaid debts accumulated before the launch of the program.

Runaki Project has extended working hours at energy sales offices to help customers complete their payments.

The project offers different discounts based on subscriber type. Households and agricultural users receive a 50% reduction on old electricity debts. Industrial, commercial and government subscribers receive a 25% discount, except customers connected to private feeders.

Runaki described the measure as the final special discount and said authorities would not extend it. The reduction applies automatically, and subscribers only need to pay the discounted balance.

The project also warned customers to continue paying their monthly Runaki bills within 50 days. Its automated system will disconnect electricity if they fail to pay within that period.

By August 4, around 35,000 subscribers had settled their old debts. At that stage, the government had waived 10 billion Iraqi dinars, while 75% of payments had been completed through the E-Psula platform.

The discounts included 3.5 billion dinars in Erbil, 3.5 billion in Sulaymaniyah, 2.5 billion in Duhok and 100 million in Halabja.

Large factories and companies with private feeders do not qualify for the programme.

Before Runaki Project began, subscribers owed more than 1.9 trillion dinars in accumulated electricity debt. Residential customers accounted for about half of that total.

The Kurdistan Regional Government approved the scheme to help subscribers settle outstanding balances. Eligible customers have until September 10 to complete payment.

Officials say the initiative aims to close the old debt file, improve payment discipline and strengthen electricity services across the Kurdistan Region. Runaki Project continues urging customers to use the temporary reduction before the deadline expires. Authorities expect the payments to support infrastructure upgrades and improve the financial sustainability of the Region’s electricity network.
