Erbil Province has officially entered its wheat harvest season, marking a pivotal time for the region’s agricultural sector. According to the Director General of Agriculture in Erbil, more than 318,000 dunams of irrigated land have been cultivated with wheat this year.

The harvest begins annually in late May and early June, signaling the start of both collection and grain marketing efforts. Although the total land suitable for grain farming in the province is estimated at one million dunams, not all areas were cultivated due to recent flooding.

This year’s overall production is projected to be lower than last year, primarily due to natural disasters and limitations imposed by the federal government regarding the quantity of wheat to be received from the Kurdistan Region. Despite these setbacks, the ongoing harvest remains a vital component of Erbil’s agricultural economy.
