The Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) “Runaki” electricity project has surpassed 900,000 registered subscribers across the Kurdistan Region. Meanwhile, officials confirmed that the project’s mobile application will launch later this summer.

The Runaki project team announced the figures in a statement released. The total includes both residential homes and commercial properties. Additionally, each housing unit or business location is counted as a separate subscriber in the system.

Officials said that citizens who buy new homes or move into rental properties must register their electricity accounts under their own names. As a result, subscribers can access all digital services linked to the project.

Thousands of residents continue registering every day as the project expands across the region. However, officials said many subscribers have not completed the registration process. Because of this, they cannot benefit from several services connected to the system.

The project team blamed the issue on limited public awareness about the project and its registration procedures. Therefore, officials urged citizens to complete the process as soon as possible.

Runaki officials explained that self-registration links a subscriber’s phone number to their electricity account. Consequently, authorities can send SMS notifications about electricity usage, bill amounts, payment reminders, maintenance schedules, and temporary outages.

The upcoming Runaki mobile application will offer several digital services. For example, subscribers will be able to monitor electricity usage, review payment history, access detailed invoices, and pay electricity bills electronically.

Officials also stressed that unregistered subscribers cannot use the application until they complete registration.

The KRG launched the Runaki project in late 2024 as part of the ninth cabinet reform agenda. Since then, authorities have described it as one of the Kurdistan Region’s largest electricity modernization projects. The initiative aims to provide 24-hour electricity service, reduce dependence on private generators, modernize infrastructure, and improve transparency in the power sector.

According to KRG officials, nearly 5.5 million citizens currently benefit from the project. Furthermore, residents who need more information can contact the Runaki customer service hotline at 1992.
