More than 300,000 electricity subscribers in the Kurdistan Region have benefited from a government debt waiver under the Runaki electricity project.

The Runaki project has also warned subscribers that fewer than 18 days remain before the deadline. Officials stressed that they will not extend the deadline for clearing old electricity debts.

The debt waiver program began around three weeks ago. Since then, more than 300,000 subscribers have settled their outstanding electricity debts and benefited from the waiver.

Households make up the largest group of beneficiaries. Commercial subscribers rank second. According to project data, around 75% of subscribers paid their debts electronically through the e-Psûle system. The remaining subscribers paid their debts in cash at electricity offices.

Runaki project data shows that users have completed more than 2 million payments through e-Psûle so far.

The project has encouraged subscribers to use electronic payment services to settle their electricity bills and outstanding debts. The system allows users to complete payments without visiting electricity offices.

However, officials have reminded subscribers that the current waiver covers old electricity debts from before the Runaki project.

The deadline for the waiver will expire on September 10, 2026. Officials have clearly stated that they will not extend the deadline.

Therefore, subscribers who still have outstanding debts should settle them before the deadline to benefit from the current arrangement.

The government has also addressed the situation of subscribers who fail to settle their debts during the specified period.

The Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Electricity and the Runaki project have assigned the relevant authorities to determine how they will handle remaining debts after the deadline.

Meanwhile, the growing use of e-Psûle highlights the Kurdistan Region’s wider shift toward digital government payments. The platform has already processed more than two million payments.

As the September 10 deadline approaches, officials are urging subscribers to complete their payments as soon as possible.
