The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the Iraqi Federal Government have reached an agreement to restart oil exports from the Kurdistan Region. The two sides also approved a special security system to protect oil fields and support the return of international oil companies.

Sherwan Dubardani, a member of the Iraqi Parliament’s Security and Defense Committee, said an Iraqi military committee will visit the Kurdistan Region in the coming days. The committee works under the Iraqi Ministry of Defense.

The delegation will coordinate with the Ministry of Peshmerga and the Kurdistan Region’s security agencies. It will also conduct field visits to oil fields across the region.

The main goal is to select the best security system for each oil field. Officials will design protection plans based on the location and geography of each site. These measures will create a safe environment for oil companies and allow them to restart operations.

Following recent agreements between Erbil and Baghdad, Dubardani confirmed that oil companies will resume production and exports next week. The exports will pass through the Turkish port of Ceyhan and reach global markets.

During the first stage, exports will exceed 200,000 barrels of oil per day. Officials believe the move will increase Iraq’s oil revenues. They also expect stronger economic cooperation between Erbil and Baghdad.

The latest developments follow a joint meeting on June 3 between the Kurdistan Regional Government and international oil companies. During the meeting, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani agreed to provide official guarantees to protect oil companies from any attacks.

On June 15, Iraq’s Oil Minister signed the official agreement. Earlier, a high-level Iraqi military delegation led by Abdul Amir Yarallah visited the Kurdistan Region. The delegation met with Masrour Barzani. The two sides discussed ways to protect oil fields. They also reviewed plans to ensure the successful return of Kurdistan Region oil exports.
