The Kurdistan Regional Government says recent fuel shortages should ease within days as officials introduce a new digital distribution platform and coordinate additional supply measures with Baghdad.
The plan followed a high-level meeting held under the direction of Prime Minister Masrour Barzani’s office. Senior officials, representatives of the Ministry of Natural Resources, provincial authorities and fuel station owners discussed the causes of the disruption and possible solutions.
KRG Spokesperson Peshawa Hawramani said the government wants to solve the immediate shortage while creating a more reliable long-term system. The new application will regulate subsidized gasoline distribution and later expand to household cooking gas.
Officials say the platform will track allocations electronically and ensure that citizens receive fuel fairly. It will also prevent repeated purchases for resale, stockpiling and black-market activity. The government believes digital monitoring will improve transparency and reduce abuse.
Hawramani said the current priority is securing stable supplies of Normal fuel, which most motorists use. Officials will address higher-grade fuels after they stabilize regular supplies.
Fuel station owners also raised concerns about the rising cost and limited availability of additives such as MTBE and ETBE. Regional tensions have made these materials harder to import, reducing premium gasoline production.
The government urged residents to avoid panic buying and unnecessary storage. Officials said deliveries to Erbil had already risen above normal daily levels.
The KRG continues to work with Baghdad to maintain fuel deliveries. Prime Minister Barzani is personally monitoring the situation.
Meanwhile, Kurdish lawmakers say the federal allocation of 50,000 barrels of crude oil per day remains insufficient. The Kurdistan Region consumes about seven million liters of gasoline daily.
The KRG says its combined approach of digital oversight, federal coordination and industry consultation will stabilize supplies, protect subsidies and improve public confidence across the Region during future periods of pressure.
