The Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministry of Finance and Economy announced on Tuesday that more than 800,000 public sector beneficiaries have received bank cards through the MyAccount program.

The initiative was launched in 2023 by Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani as part of the ninth cabinet’s reform agenda. The program aims to expand financial inclusion and improve banking services across the Kurdistan Region.

According to the ministry, more than 900,000 public sector employees and beneficiaries have registered for bank accounts through the initiative so far.

Officials said the program helps simplify salary payments and banking procedures. Beneficiaries receive direct notifications about account registration, card delivery, and salary transfers, reducing delays and improving access to financial services.

The ministry also announced that participating banks installed more than 600 automated teller machines (ATMs) across the Kurdistan Region. The expansion aims to improve cash withdrawal services and reduce overcrowding at payment centers.

Officials expect the number of ATMs to exceed 1,000 by the end of the project, in line with regulations issued by the Central Bank of Iraq.

The KRG views the MyAccount program as a key step toward modernizing the banking sector, promoting electronic financial services, and reducing dependence on cash-based transactions.
