Gold prices remained largely stable on Wednesday as investors waited for the US Federal Reserve’s interest-rate decision and comments from Chair Kevin Warsh for clues about the direction of monetary policy.

Spot gold moved only slightly during the session and fell by a few dollars to around $4,025 per ounce. Gold futures for delivery next month declined 0.2% to approximately $4,028.

Kelvin Wong, a financial markets analyst at OANDA, said gold’s next move would depend heavily on the outcome of the Federal Open Market Committee meeting. He explained that softer language from the central bank could reverse some of gold’s recent losses.

The Federal Reserve will announce the result of its two-day meeting at 9:00 p.m. Erbil time. Warsh is expected to hold a press conference 30 minutes later.

Market forecasts suggest a 70% chance that the Fed will keep interest rates unchanged. Traders see a 30% probability of a 0.25 percentage-point increase at Wednesday’s meeting.

Expectations for September are more aggressive. Markets currently estimate a 76% chance that the central bank will raise rates during that month.

Investors are also monitoring other major central banks. Analysts widely expect the Bank of England and the Bank of Japan to leave their interest rates unchanged at meetings scheduled for Thursday and Friday.

Gold often serves as a hedge against inflation and economic uncertainty. However, high interest rates can reduce its appeal because the metal does not provide regular income. Higher rates can also strengthen the dollar and increase the opportunity cost of holding gold.

For now, traders remain cautious. The Fed’s statement, Warsh’s comments and any change in future rate expectations could quickly influence gold prices, bond yields and the US dollar. Any unexpected signal could trigger sharp movements across precious-metal markets before the end of the current trading week worldwide.
