During a multi-day diplomatic mission to the Islamic Republic of Iran, Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw engaged in high-level meetings with Iranian officials to address the prolonged delay in opening the Kelashin border gate.

Although discussions surrounding the gate have persisted for over nine years, the crossing remains non-operational due to Iran’s failure to provide necessary infrastructure, including road and electricity connections. Erbil Governor emphasized the importance of expediting these developments to activate the crossing without further delay.

The Kelashin gate is strategically situated in the Sidakan district of the Soran autonomous administration, adjacent to Shino in eastern Kurdistan. Its opening is anticipated to serve as a vital conduit for enhanced trade and economic integration between the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and Iran, marking a significant step in regional commerce and bilateral relations.
