The Director General of Agriculture in Duhok announced that this year, 800 acres of industrial potatoes have been planted, representing a 20% increase over the previous year. In addition to edible potatoes, industrial varieties are cultivated annually in Duhok to be processed into chips and fries.

The planting of industrial potatoes began on December 15 and is expected to be harvested by mid-March. While industrial potatoes are grown across the province, the majority are produced in the Bardarash district. According to the Director General, the rise in industrial potato production is driven by growing demand, with this year’s total reaching approximately 120,000 tons, a 20% increase compared to the previous year.

He further explained that the sugar and protein content in potatoes varies, highlighting the importance of these factors in their industrial use. Official statistics indicate that last year, Duhok’s overall potato production reached 625,000 tons.
