The General Directorate of Agriculture in Erbil, Hemn Said Murad, has announced that cucumber production in the region is anticipated to exceed 35,000 tons for the year 2025. This projection is based on increased cultivation and output compared to the previous year. Final figures are expected to be confirmed in the coming week.

According to the Director General, a total of 7,136 dunams has been allocated for cucumber cultivation in 2025, reflecting a notable expansion from the 6,373 dunams cultivated in 2024. Last year’s total production reached 28,679 tons.

This year’s output has not only fulfilled local market demand but also enabled exports to central and southern regions of Iraq since early May.

In a move aimed at protecting and promoting domestic agricultural production, the Ministry of Agriculture has introduced seasonal import restrictions. Specifically, from April 15 to November 15, 2025, imports of cucumbers will be subject to taxation in order to support local farmers and stabilize the market.
