Bitcoin, the world’s largest cryptocurrency, fell below $77,000 on Sunday. The digital currency lost nearly $500 and traded at around $76,900.

Bitcoin gained about 22% last week. The strong rally helped the cryptocurrency reverse its previous downward trend.

However, Bitcoin failed to break above the important $78,000 level. The price remained below that threshold despite strong buying activity in recent days.

Investment funds have increased their Bitcoin purchases as the market recovered. At the same time, some investors have started selling their holdings.

Some long-term investors bought Bitcoin at previous highs. Several of them sold their holdings at losses of around 20%. The selling pressure has added volatility to the market.

Despite Sunday’s decline, buying activity exceeded selling activity during the previous five days. This trend helped Bitcoin regain some of its lost value and reach higher levels.

Market analysts now expect further volatility in the Bitcoin market. They point to the large number of leveraged trades as one of the main risks.

Around $1.6 billion in cryptocurrency positions faced liquidation over the past 24 hours. These liquidations affected both buyers and sellers who used leverage to increase their market exposure.

According to CoinGlass data, the market liquidated around $866 million in long Bitcoin positions during the same period. Traders also lost around $797 million from short positions.

Leveraged trading can increase both profits and losses. When prices move sharply against traders, exchanges can automatically close their positions to limit further losses.

The recent liquidations therefore highlight the high level of risk in the cryptocurrency market.

Bitcoin’s failure to cross $78,000 also remains an important signal for traders. A sustained move above that level could strengthen buying momentum. However, another decline could increase selling pressure.

For now, investors continue to monitor Bitcoin’s price closely. Market activity, leveraged positions and investor demand could determine the cryptocurrency’s next major move.
