Duhok exported more than 167,000 tonnes of locally produced agricultural goods during the first eight months of this year.
The exports included potatoes, onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, watermelons, apples, figs, grapes, pomegranates, rice, beans, and several other crops.
Agricultural authorities said farmers continue to expand their access to markets outside the Kurdistan Region. Local producers now supply markets in other Iraqi provinces, Gulf countries, Turkey, and international destinations.
Ahmed Jamil, Director General of Agriculture in Duhok, said the province exported 167,820 tonnes of local agricultural products during the eight-month period.
Potatoes accounted for the largest share of exports, reaching 92,210 tonnes. Onion exports followed with 16,603 tonnes, while Duhok exported 9,919 tonnes of tomatoes.
The province also exported 27,885 tonnes of dill and 9,390 tonnes of cucumbers. Pepper exports reached 6,943 tonnes, while Duhok sent 2,187 tonnes of watermelons to markets outside the region.
Other exported products included 1,001 tonnes of beans, 837 tonnes of Syrian wheat, 220 tonnes of green beans, and 106 tonnes of peaches.
Duhok also exported smaller quantities of several fruits and vegetables. These included 76 tonnes of figs, 45 tonnes of raisins, 44 tonnes of grapes, 40 tonnes of apples, and 24 tonnes of potatoes.
Farmers also exported Kurdish rice, dried figs, grape leaves, pomegranates, eggplants, pumpkins, turnips, and other agricultural products.
The figures highlight the growing role of agricultural production in Duhok’s economy. Authorities have continued to encourage farmers to increase local production and reach new markets.
Meanwhile, Duhok exported 1,213 tonnes and 142 kilograms of other agricultural products to Turkey during the same eight-month period.
Those exports included rice, corn, mint, artichoke seeds, purslane, sumac, raisins, wild mushrooms, and onions.
The continued flow of agricultural exports reflects growing demand for locally produced goods. It also provides farmers with opportunities to expand production and increase their income.
Officials say expanding agricultural exports remains an important part of efforts to strengthen domestic production and develop the agricultural sector.
