The Kurdistan Region’s largest festival dedicated to grapes and grape products opened yesterday in Ankawa, Erbil province.

The three-day event is showcasing 52 different grape varieties. It is also highlighting local agricultural products and supporting farmers across the region.

The Ankawa District Administration organized the 2026 “Grape Basket Festival” with support from the festival organizers and a leading local farmer.

The festival opened yesterday and will continue for three days. It welcomes visitors each evening from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Organizers said the event aims to recognize the efforts of local farmers. It also promotes domestic products and encourages consumers to support local agriculture.

The festival is also introducing visitors to the agricultural diversity of the Kurdistan Region. Families, farmers, traders and agricultural enthusiasts are attending the event.

The festival is taking place at the Salwan Sardar Garden in Ankawa.

The garden belongs to a prominent local farmer and has gained recognition for its fertile soil and grape production. It is considered one of the largest grape gardens in the Kurdistan Region.

According to the farmer, the garden contains 52 different grape varieties. Visitors can see the varieties and learn more about grape cultivation in the area.

The festival also gives farmers an opportunity to promote their products and connect directly with consumers.

Organizers said the festival goes beyond celebrating the grape harvest. It also supports local producers and encourages agricultural development.

Agricultural festivals can help farmers reach new customers and expand their markets. They can also increase public awareness of locally produced goods.

The organizers hope the event will encourage more farmers to invest in grape cultivation. They also expect it to support improvements in production quality.

The Kurdistan Region has significant agricultural potential because of its fertile land and diverse climate. Events such as the Grape Basket Festival help showcase that potential.

The three-day event will continue in Ankawa, offering visitors an opportunity to explore different grape varieties and local agricultural products.

By bringing farmers and consumers together, the festival aims to strengthen the agricultural sector and promote Kurdish products.
