President Barzani Meets Canadian Delegation to Boost Economy and Technology Ties

President Masoud Barzani welcomed a delegation from the Canadian-Kurdish Friendship Group in Pirmam. The two sides discussed ways to expand relations between Canada and the Kurdistan Region. They focused particularly on cooperation in the fields of economy and technology.

According to a statement from the Barzani Headquarters, the delegation included Ziad Aboultaif and Ahmed Hussen. Both are members of the Canadian Parliament. Hussen also previously served as Canada’s Minister of International Development.

The visiting delegation expressed its pleasure at meeting President Barzani. The members reaffirmed their support for the legitimate aspirations of the people of Kurdistan. They also praised the Kurdish people’s long struggle and sacrifices. In addition, they commended the heroic role of the Peshmerga forces during the war against the Islamic State group.

The statement said the delegation presented an overview of the activities of the Canadian-Kurdish Friendship Group. The members also highlighted their coordination with the Kurdish National Congress. They discussed efforts to support the Kurdish cause and raise international awareness of Kurdish issues.

President Barzani thanked the people and government of Canada for their continued support and cooperation. He said Canada had stood by the Kurdistan Region during different stages of its modern history. He also praised Canada’s support for the Kurdish people and the Peshmerga during the fight against ISIS. He stressed that this support helped confront terrorism and protect regional stability.

The statement added that President Barzani reiterated his support for deeper friendship between Kurdistan and Canada. He emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral relations. He also called for new opportunities in economic development, technological advancement, and cultural exchange.

The meeting reflected a shared desire to build stronger ties. Both sides also expressed their willingness to expand cooperation for the benefit of Canada and the Kurdistan Region.
