Fuel authorities in Erbil expect gasoline prices to decline in the coming days after increasing the volume of subsidized fuel supplied to local filling stations.
Over the past several days, commercial gasoline prices have risen sharply across the Kurdistan Region. In many stations across Erbil, the price of one liter of regular gasoline climbed to between 1,075 and 1,190 Iraqi dinars. Officials believe the additional government-supported fuel entering the market will help stabilize supplies and reduce pressure on prices.
The recent fuel shortage has affected both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. Industry sources link the crisis to lower production levels at domestic refineries and wider fuel supply challenges across the country. In response, authorities introduced several measures to improve fuel availability and restore market stability.
Jangi Majid, head of the Erbil Fuel Station Council, said the government has significantly increased daily fuel allocations for filling stations. According to him, stations now receive 26 fuel tankers per day instead of 17. This increase raises daily gasoline supplies from 612,000 liters to 936,000 liters.
Majid explained that the additional fuel will allow more stations to sell subsidized gasoline at 750 dinars per liter. As a result, consumers should see a direct impact on commercial fuel prices. He expects prices to begin falling during the coming week as supply improves across the market.
Authorities have also expanded fuel deliveries to other provinces. Duhok currently receives between nine and ten government-supported fuel tankers each day, while Sulaymaniyah receives four to five. Officials plan to increase allocations for both provinces in the near future.
Meanwhile, LPG prices have already moved lower. A liter of LPG currently sells for between 630 and 650 dinars. Just weeks ago, prices ranged from 800 to 1,200 dinars per liter.
The increase in fuel supplies and the decline in LPG prices offer encouraging signs for consumers and businesses. Officials hope these measures will help restore stability to the energy market and ease costs for residents across the Kurdistan Region.
