Household gas prices and commercial gas station rates in Erbil have fallen significantly over the past few days. Local officials say lower demand and increased supply have pushed prices down across the city. Meanwhile, authorities confirmed that the coupon-based household gas distribution system will continue without interruption.

A major change in gas prices occurred within just two days. The price of one ton of gas dropped from 1.95 million Iraqi dinars to 1.55 million dinars. This sharp decline immediately affected retail prices at gas stations and in the household gas market.

According to Jangi Majid, head of the Erbil Fuel Station Association, gas stations currently sell one liter of gas for between 875 and 890 dinars. Only two days ago, the same amount sold for around 1,050 dinars per liter.

The price of household gas cylinders has also fallen. Consumers now pay between 16,000 and 17,000 dinars for a cylinder, compared with 25,000 dinars previously. The reduction has provided financial relief for many families and businesses that rely on gas for daily use.

Salar Mohammed, head of the Inspection and Follow-Up Department at Erbil’s Directorate of Oil and Minerals, said authorities will continue distributing household gas through approved agents. He explained that the directorate distributes available supplies among residents based on the quantities it receives.

Officials identified warmer weather as one of the main reasons behind the rapid price decline. As temperatures rise, households use less gas, reducing overall demand. At the same time, authorities coordinated with Erbil Governorate to allow gas imports from other Iraqi cities into the Kurdistan Region. This move increased market supply and helped lower prices further.

Authorities also updated residents about the coupon system. Coupon number three remains valid for gas collection. Residents who have not yet received gas under coupon number two can still use it and will not lose their entitlement. Officials also plan to activate coupon number four in the coming days to ensure continued gas distribution across the region.
