The Kurdistan Region is home to several factories specializing in the production of construction materials, many of which produce high-quality products for distribution across central and southern Iraq. One prominent factory in Erbil focuses on the manufacturing of construction materials by melting scrap iron in high-temperature furnaces. Through a series of processes, the molten iron is shaped into materials used in the construction of residential and commercial buildings.

Due to the nature of iron smelting, the factory generates smoke and pollutants. To address this, the facility has implemented an advanced smoke treatment system. Mohammed Abdulkarim, the mechanical engineer overseeing the project, explained that the system uses two pipes to handle the emissions. One of the pipes manages higher temperatures, while the other is designed to capture and collect dust particles, effectively reducing the environmental impact.

This iron factory plays a crucial role in enhancing the industrial infrastructure of the Kurdistan Region. With the capacity to produce hundreds of thousands of tons of iron annually, the factory supports the region’s booming construction industry. Factory Director Mohammed Yahya highlighted the factory’s commitment to environmental sustainability. The facility adheres to the regulations set by the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Environmental Repair and Protection Board, ensuring that its operations contribute positively to both the economy and the environment.
