Sesame Cultivation in Akre Town Sees Steady Growth, Boosting Local Production

Akre town, known for its fertile soil and favorable climate, continues to thrive in agricultural production, with sesame being one of the most significant crops in the region. According to Fazel Ibrahim, the Director of Agriculture in Akre, sesame cultivation has been expanding steadily over the years. In 2024, the area dedicated to sesame farming grew to 852 acres, yielding 149 tons.

The majority of sesame cultivation takes place in the Gardasin and Dinarta areas of Akre. The harvested sesame is primarily processed into tahini, which enjoys high demand among local residents. Akre is home to numerous tahini factories, and the sesame produced in the area is noted for its distinct taste.
