The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) officially opened a new representative office in Madrid, marking an important step in expanding its diplomatic presence in Europe. Officials described the move as the beginning of a new phase in relations between the Kurdistan Region and Spain, with a strong focus on stability, investment, and trade.

The inauguration ceremony took place under the supervision of Safeen Dizayee, Head of the KRG’s Department of Foreign Relations (DFR). The event was also attended by the Charge d’Affaires of the Iraqi Embassy in Spain. This participation highlighted coordination between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the federal government of Iraq in advancing international engagement.

During his keynote speech, Dizayee emphasized the economic goals of the new mission. He stated that the Kurdistan Region (KRG) and Iraq are now open for international investment and trade. He invited Spanish companies and investors to explore opportunities across multiple sectors, stressing that foreign investment plays a key role in the region’s long-term economic growth and diversification.

Dizayee also addressed the broader situation in the Middle East. He said regional leaders face daily choices between conflict and cooperation. He underlined the importance of choosing peace, dialogue, and partnership in order to build a stable and prosperous future. These remarks aimed to position the Kurdistan Region as a reliable and stable partner for European countries.

The Madrid visit included extensive diplomatic engagement. On the sidelines of the opening ceremony, Dizayee held meetings with Spanish government officials, diplomats, and representatives of political parties. He also met with members of Spain’s business community to present investment incentives and discuss economic cooperation.

According to the DFR, the new office will serve as a permanent platform for official communication, cultural exchange, and support for the Kurdish community in Spain. It will also help promote trade, investment, and political dialogue.

Officials say the opening of the Madrid office strengthens Erbil’s global outreach and supports Iraq’s broader efforts toward international reintegration. Both sides see the move as a foundation for deeper cooperation in technology, infrastructure, and trade in the coming years.
