Over 500 Subscribers in Duhok Now Use Solar Power Systems

The use of solar power systems in Duhok Province is rising rapidly. The General Directorate of Electricity in Duhok has confirmed that 530 electricity subscribers now use solar power systems across its jurisdiction. This growth highlights a strong trend toward renewable energy in the region.

In recent years, installing solar power systems in homes, businesses, and industrial projects has increased significantly. Therefore, the government encourages citizens to adopt these systems at home. This initiative reduces the government’s electricity supply burden while allowing residents to access free, sustainable energy.

Additionally, according to the latest official data, the breakdown of solar power system subscribers in Duhok is as follows:

  • Duhok Electricity Distribution Directorate: 248 residential, 23 commercial — total 271 subscribers.
  • Semel Electricity Distribution Directorate: 46 residential, 4 commercial, 3 industrial — total 53 subscribers.
  • Amedi Electricity Distribution Directorate: 8 residential, 2 commercial — total 10 subscribers.
  • Akre Electricity Distribution Directorate: 30 residential, 3 commercial — total 33 subscribers.
  • Shekhan Electricity Distribution Directorate: 23 residential, 2 commercial — total 25 subscribers.
  • Bardarash Electricity Distribution Directorate: 123 residential, 13 commercial, 2 industrial — total 138 subscribers.

Therefore, the total installed solar power capacity in Duhok Province has reached 628,865 megawatts. This figure reflects the growing adoption of solar power systems across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors.

Meanwhile, in Sulaymaniyah, the adoption of these systems is also increasing. The General Directorate of Electricity in Sulaymaniyah reported 2,590 registered renewable energy subscribers. Their total installed capacity is 76,390 megawatts, divided into:

  • Residential: 2,163 subscribers
  • Commercial: 337 subscribers
  • Industrial: 15 subscribers
  • Agricultural: 70 subscribers
  • Governmental: 5 subscribers

Furthermore, the rise of solar power systems in Duhok and Sulaymaniyah demonstrates a shift toward renewable energy solutions. More residents and businesses are choosing these systems to save on electricity costs and support sustainable energy development. Additionally, the government continues to promote these systems as a key strategy to reduce electricity shortages and encourage clean energy adoption.
