Kurdistan Prime Minister Masrour Barzani inaugurated the Slevana Wheat Marketing Factory in Zakho, a major step toward boosting local industries and supporting farmers across the region. The factory, established by Khoshnaw Company, focuses on processing and marketing wheat from local farmers, helping them reach larger markets.

During the ceremony, Barzani said the Slevana Wheat Marketing Factory aligns with the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) broader strategy to strengthen agriculture and diversify the economy. He explained that the factory’s development followed international standards to guarantee high-quality output and better services for farmers.

Barzani emphasized that the KRG’s long-term vision is to make agriculture a key driver of sustainable growth. “We have prioritized agriculture and food production,” he stated. The Prime Minister highlighted several other initiatives, including new grain silos and agricultural facilities built through partnerships with private investors.

Moreover, Barzani praised the role of local farmers and businesses in transforming Kurdistan’s economy. He noted that the region’s agricultural products have already reached markets in both Arab and European countries. “Our products are now available internationally, and we aim to strengthen this presence further,” he said. He urged farmers to adopt modern technology and meet top-quality standards to maintain competitiveness.

The Wheat Marketing Factory is expected to generate new employment opportunities, especially for youth in Zakho and surrounding districts. Barzani explained that agriculture is essential to the government’s plan to move from a consumption-based society to a production-oriented one.

He also reaffirmed that the KRG will continue to encourage private sector collaboration to boost industrial projects and enhance food security. “We will keep supporting factories like the Slevana Wheat Marketing Factory to compete effectively with imported products,” he said.

The launch of the Slevana Wheat Marketing Factory reflects the KRG’s ongoing commitment to expanding the agricultural sector, empowering farmers, and building a stronger local economy.
