Wheat marketing to Kurdistan farmers is ongoing for the fifth consecutive year. This year’s collection period will continue until August 15, 2025. Farmers from across the region are delivering their wheat to licensed private companies.

Private companies have confirmed they will receive wheat from local producers during this period. The wheat must meet agreed-upon quality standards before companies accept it.

Sarmad Rashid, Director General of Das Company, stated that companies are ready to receive hundreds of tons of wheat, provided it passes inspection. “The deadline is set from July 15 to August 15, and we do not plan to extend it,” he said.

Companies have already deployed teams to receive and inspect the grain at collection centers. Farmers have been actively participating in this year’s campaign.

Aziz Abdulkarim, a farmer, explained that the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) accepted 10 tons of wheat from his harvest. He delivered an additional 30 tons to a private company. “I am working to ensure that all my wheat is marketed before the deadline,” he added.

Another farmer, Star Jabar, shared a similar experience. “So far, I’ve delivered 18 tons to one of the companies,” he said. “But I still have half of my wheat left and plan to deliver the rest soon.”

This year’s procurement extends to farmers in the fertile plains of Karaj and Kandena. These areas contribute significantly to the region’s wheat production.

Wheat marketing to Kurdistan farmers is critical for reducing crop loss, ensuring stable incomes, and supporting agricultural development. By selling directly to approved companies, farmers gain access to stable markets and fair prices.

The effort reflects increased cooperation between the public and private sectors. With the August 15 deadline in place, both sides are working quickly to complete the wheat handover.

Wheat marketing to Kurdistan farmers remains a cornerstone of seasonal planning and food security for the region.
