On May 25, 2025, the Rwanga Foundation marked the successful completion of a large-scale environmental project involving the plantation of 20,000 Spanish olive trees in the Dilopa-Kasnazan area of Erbil. The event was attended by Idris Nechirvan Barzani, President and Founder of the Foundation; Fawzi Hariri, Chief of Staff of the Kurdistan Region Presidency; Begard Talabani, Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources; as well as representatives from the GIZ Agency, diplomatic missions, international delegations, and non-governmental organizations.
The project, which covers 55 donums of land, is anticipated to yield approximately 400 tons of olives and 120 tons of olive oil each year. Environmentally, it will produce an estimated 5 million liters of oxygen daily, contributing significantly to improved air quality in Erbil.
In addition to its environmental contributions, the initiative has generated employment for 255 individuals, including women, youth, and people with disabilities—supporting inclusive economic development in the region.
This initiative was executed in collaboration with the GIZ Agency and supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Development and Cooperation, the Kurdistan Regional Government, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources.
The Rwanga Foundation continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to environmental protection and sustainability throughout the Kurdistan Region.
