The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has initiated a major infrastructure campaign in Erbil, approving 48 strategic road sector projects, including the construction of three modern bridges and tunnels along the city’s 100-meter road. These developments aim to alleviate traffic congestion and modernize urban transport. Among the most prominent initiatives is a project in Makhmur Square, valued at 30 billion Iraqi dinars, which will feature advanced bridge and tunnel systems to improve connectivity.

Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw stated that these efforts continue despite challenges posed by the federal government, underscoring the KRG’s determination to enhance public services and infrastructure across the region.

In parallel, the city’s master plan is undergoing final revisions, emphasizing expanded green spaces and sustainable urban development. A significant greening project is underway in Erbil, covering 120,000 square meters at a cost of 15 billion dinars. This includes the installation of 30,000 meters of freezer systems, 11,000 meters of tartan tracks for sports, and the planting of 15,000 trees and 20,000 flowers.

Additionally, along the 120-meter road connecting Erbil to Mosul, another green zone of 205,000 square meters is being developed, with a budget of over 3.4 billion dinars.

Service projects are also being carried out in Erbil’s neighborhoods, with a focus on Hasarokan’s 8th sector. Recent work has involved paving main and internal roads and adapting urban planning to local citizen needs. Moreover, a large-scale emergency hospital project has commenced to strengthen healthcare services in the area.
