Farmers in the Garmian region have commenced the harvesting of barley, while wheat harvesting is scheduled to begin by mid-May, as reported by the Garmian General Directorate of Agriculture.

This agricultural season, approximately 420,000 dunams of land have been cultivated with wheat in Garmian. However, due to recent environmental challenges, authorities are unable to provide accurate yield projections at this time. Last year, the region produced 60,000 tons of wheat.

Significant obstacles have affected the crop this year, including regional flooding and a severe cold spell in early April, both of which inflicted measurable damage on wheat fields.

In 2024, the Iraqi Ministry of Commerce received over 700,000 tons of wheat from the broader Kurdistan Region. However, current estimates suggest that figure may fall to approximately 400,000 tons this year due to weather-related impacts on production.
