A new payment package for the Kurdistan Region farmers who delivered wheat to government silos. The latest installment exceeds 41 billion Iraqi dinars and marks the sixth phase of wheat payments.
The General Directorate of Trade announced the decision on June 10, 2026. Officials said the government will distribute 41.45 billion dinars to eligible farmers. These farmers supplied their wheat harvest to silos during the previous season.
The government continues its efforts to support local agriculture. It also aims to help farmers receive their financial dues on time. As a result, many producers will benefit from the latest payment round.
Officials divided the funds among the provinces. Erbil province will receive 13.717 billion dinars. Sulaymaniyah and Halabja provinces will receive a combined 16.858 billion dinars. Duhok province will receive 10.875 billion dinars.
The new payment covers only part of the outstanding dues. Officials said the Iraqi federal government still owes farmers 141.755 billion dinars. Farmers continue to wait for the remaining payments.
Earlier this year, the Iraqi government released another financial package. On May 3, 2026, Baghdad allocated 100 billion dinars to farmers across Iraq. Farmers in the Kurdistan Region received more than 12 billion dinars from that package.
The wheat purchasing program remains important for Iraq’s agricultural sector. The program encourages farmers to increase production and improve crop quality. It also supports national food security goals.
The Iraqi Council of Ministers set different prices for wheat based on irrigation methods. Farmers who used modern irrigation systems received 850,000 dinars per ton. Farmers who used traditional irrigation methods received 800,000 dinars per ton.
Officials expect these payments to strengthen the farming sector. They also believe the funds will encourage more wheat cultivation in future seasons. In addition, the payments help farmers manage production costs and invest in their farms.
The government continues to prioritize wheat production because it plays a key role in food security. Authorities hope the remaining payments will reach farmers soon and provide further support to the agricultural sector.
