Wheat payments to farmers in Sulaymaniyah and Halabja will begin this week after a short delay caused by year-end holidays and bank closures.
Officials confirmed that the allocated funds were deposited into banks. As a result, farmers will now be able to receive their payment checks and collect their financial entitlements.
The delay affected only farmers in Sulaymaniyah and Halabja. Meanwhile, authorities had already completed the third phase of wheat payment distributions for farmers in Erbil and Duhok. In those provinces, payments reached farmers on schedule.
According to officials, the delay happened in two stages. First, the New Year holiday paused government procedures last week. Then, additional bank holidays earlier this week prevented the issuance of checks. Once banks resumed operations, officials finalized the process.
Nasrin Ahmed, Director of the Sulaymaniyah Silos, confirmed that all preparations are now complete. She said the funds have already entered the banking system.
“The money is now in the bank, and we have prepared the checks,” Ahmed said. “Starting tomorrow, Wednesday, we will begin distributing them to farmers. After receiving the checks, farmers can go directly to the bank to collect their payments.”
The total amount allocated to farmers in Sulaymaniyah and Halabja stands at 9.5 billion Iraqi dinars. This payment covers wheat deliveries made during the current agricultural season.
Farmers who delivered wheat quantities ranging from one ton up to 500 tons to government silos are eligible for payment. Each farmer will receive a bank check based on the volume of wheat delivered.
Local agricultural officials say the payments will help ease financial pressure on farmers. Many rely on timely wheat payments to prepare for the next planting season and cover production costs.
Authorities urged farmers to follow the announced schedule and bring the required documents when collecting their checks. Officials also confirmed that no further delays are expected.
The wheat payment program remains a key part of government support for the agricultural sector, particularly in grain-producing provinces.
