Registered solar power generation in Sulaymaniyah Governorate has surpassed 76 megawatts, reflecting rapid growth in renewable energy adoption, officials said.
Therefore, the Sulaymaniyah Electricity Directorate confirmed that officially registered solar systems now generate 76.39 megawatts of electricity across the governorate. The figures show a steady rise in installations by households, businesses, and other sectors.
Sirwan Ahmed, spokesperson for the Sulaymaniyah Electricity Directorate, shared the data in a statement. He said the statistics were compiled by the directorate’s Renewable Energy Section.
Additionally, Ahmed said interest in solar energy continues to grow daily. More residents and business owners are installing solar systems and registering them with the authorities. 2,590 subscribers have completed the official registration process.
Households lead solar adoption in Sulaimani. According to the directorate, 2,173 residential subscribers have installed and registered solar systems. This makes the housing sector the largest contributor to registered solar capacity in the governorate.
Moreover, the commercial sector ranks second. The data shows 337 business subscribers have adopted solar power. Officials say this reflects growing confidence among business owners in renewable energy as a reliable power source.
Therefore, the agricultural sector follows with 70 registered subscribers. While adoption remains limited compared to residential and commercial users, officials say interest is slowly expanding among farmers.
Moreover, industrial adoption remains low. Only 15 industrial subscribers have registered solar systems so far. Government institutions represent the smallest share, with just five public departments currently using registered solar power systems.
Ahmed stressed that the official figures only reflect registered installations. He warned that actual solar usage is likely higher. Some residents and businesses have installed systems without completing the registration process.
“As a result, real solar power production in Sulaymaniyah may exceed the registered capacity,” he said.
Furthermore, officials say the data highlights a clear trend. Private households continue to drive solar expansion, followed by businesses. Other sectors remain in early stages of adoption.
The directorate said it will continue monitoring growth as solar installations increase across the governorate.
