The Kurdistan Region is entering new international markets with a fresh agricultural opportunity: Kurdistan mulberry exports. The head of the Erbil Chamber of Commerce and Industry confirmed that the Region will soon export mulberries to the United Arab Emirates and other global markets. This step strengthens the Region’s agricultural sector and grows commercial ties with the UAE.

On Monday, 08-12-2025, a delegation from the Erbil Chamber of Commerce and Industry will travel to the UAE. They will meet key institutions, including the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and the Dubai, Sharjah, and Ras Al Khaimah Chambers of Commerce and Industry. The meetings will focus on boosting economic cooperation and finding new opportunities for agricultural trade and investment.

Geylan Haji Saeed, President of the Erbil Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said the Region is ready to expand its agricultural exports. He explained that Kurdistan mulberry exports will soon reach foreign markets. He also said farmers can export pomegranate products during peak seasons.. This move will raise income for local farmers and strengthen the Region’s presence in regional markets.

Saeed highlighted another export opportunity. The Kurdistan Region produces large quantities of olives, especially through the Erbil Greenbelt Project. Authorities plan to export them once local demand is fully met. This strategy ensures that Kurdistan mulberry exports remain part of a sustainable agricultural plan.

Saeed also discussed the growing relationship between the Kurdistan Region and the UAE in tourism. He said the UAE is interested in investing in the Region’s tourism industry. A new tourism project has started in the Soran administration. It aims to become a top destination for visitors from Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. This reflects the UAE’s long-term cooperation plans beyond trade.

Saeed emphasized the banking sector’s importance. He stated that the UAE is investing in financial operations in the Region. A branch of Abu Dhabi Bank is already active and will expand its services soon. This growth supports broader economic goals, including the success of Kurdistan mulberry exports.

Overall, Kurdistan mulberry exports represent a new chapter in the Region’s agricultural development. They also signal deeper economic cooperation with the UAE in trade, tourism, and banking.
