The Director General of Agriculture in Erbil has confirmed a notable increase in the production of locally cultivated vegetables, indicating a positive trajectory for the region’s agricultural sector. Among the produce currently available in the local markets are cucumbers, coleslaw, potatoes, white onions, beets, lettuce, eggplant, and cauliflower.

It was also announced that a broader range of summer crops—such as tomatoes, eggplants, and peppers—is expected to enter the market in the upcoming month. The enhanced production is part of a broader strategic approach to reduce reliance on imported agricultural goods.

In alignment with this strategy, the Director General of Food Production in Erbil stated that the importation of potatoes and onions will be suspended. This move is driven by the readiness of local harvests and the region’s capacity to meet internal demand.

As production levels continue to rise and crops reach full maturity, plans for potential exportation are under consideration. The presence of external demand for products from the Kurdistan Region has been acknowledged, though final decisions on exports remain under review at this stage.
