Ali Abdullah, a resident of Erbil province, recently traveled through the crossing. He said the organized procedures encouraged him to use the land route. The trip takes longer, but the process is smooth.
Abdullah explained that flights were previously available. However, airport closures removed this option for many travelers. As a result, people now depend on road travel. He also praised the services at the crossing. According to him, the facilities are well organized. Staff members also provide helpful assistance to travelers.
Another traveler from Kirkuk shared a similar experience. He said many people from his city now use the Ibrahim Khalil route. Nearby airports are still closed. Because of this, the border crossing has become an important alternative. Many residents use it to continue their journeys toward Europe.
Drivers working on this route also report more passengers. Travelers from Erbil and other cities often travel to Zakho first. After arriving, they cross the border into Turkey.
One driver said the increase is very noticeable. The situation is unusual because it is the month of Ramadan. Travel activity usually slows during this period.
Transportation costs from Zakho to Turkish cities vary. Prices range between $25 and $150 per person. The price depends on the vehicle type and the destination.
Drivers and officials shared new statistics. The crossing previously handled about 100 travelers daily. Now the number has passed 200 passengers per day.
