The Kurdistan Regional Government has started preparations to distribute the fifth food basket to eligible citizens.

A large portion of the food supplies has already reached warehouses. Authorities will distribute the products to authorized agents during the current week.

The agents will then provide the food basket to citizens as part of the monthly food distribution program.

Nawzad Sheikh Kamil, director general of commerce at the Ministry of Trade and Industry, said many of the required food products have arrived at government warehouses.

He explained that officials will distribute the supplies to agents this week. The agents will then begin providing the food basket to eligible households.

The fifth food basket includes several essential food products. The package contains rice, sugar, cooking oil, tomato paste and legumes.

Citizens will pay 1,500 Iraqi dinars in exchange for receiving the food basket.

The distribution comes as authorities continue coordinating monthly food and flour supplies between the Kurdistan Region and Iraq’s federal government.

In previous years, citizens received up to 10 food baskets annually. However, the distribution schedule has changed this year.

By the middle of August, authorities had distributed only four food baskets to citizens.

The fifth basket is therefore expected to provide additional support to households, particularly as food prices remain an important concern for consumers.

Officials said the current distribution process will begin with the delivery of supplies to authorized agents.

Once the agents receive the products, they will distribute the food baskets to citizens according to the official distribution system.

The government’s food basket program provides essential goods to households through a structured monthly supply system.

The latest basket focuses on basic products commonly used by families. Rice, sugar, oil, tomato paste and legumes form an important part of household food consumption.

Authorities are expected to continue the distribution after completing deliveries to agents across the Kurdistan Region.

The arrival of the fifth food basket marks another step in this year’s food distribution program.

Officials say the process will continue through the relevant distribution network until eligible citizens receive their allocated supplies.

The government hopes the program will help households obtain essential food products at a controlled cost and provide additional support amid changing market prices.
