China and the Kurdistan Region reaffirmed their commitment to cultural dialogue, technology, and international cooperation during an event marking the International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations.
Liu Jun, China’s Consul General to the Kurdistan Region, said both sides share important values despite differences in language, history, and culture. He noted that people everywhere seek peace and stability. He also praised the Kurdistan Region for maintaining relative stability amid regional tensions.
According to Liu, cultural differences should serve as bridges between societies rather than create divisions. He stressed that mutual respect for traditions and civilizations can strengthen international relations and support peaceful development.
The Chinese diplomat also highlighted growing educational and technological ties. More people in the Kurdistan Region are learning Chinese, and the use of Chinese technology is increasing across different sectors. He said these developments create new opportunities for cooperation.
Liu added that Chinese and Kurdish cultures have strong potential for deeper engagement. He pointed to the Kurdish literary masterpiece Mem and Zin as an example of cultural exchange that has enriched Chinese understanding of Kurdish heritage. He also praised Kurdish traditions and cuisine and expressed China’s interest in expanding cooperation with the region.
Meanwhile, Safeen Dizayee emphasized the importance of dialogue and intercultural understanding. He said the Kurdistan Region’s voice should be heard and better understood by the international community.
Dizayee recalled a period when Kurdish voices were largely unheard, and the world failed to witness the suffering endured by the Kurdish people. Today, he said, global conditions have changed, although the Middle East still faces serious challenges.
In his remarks, Dizayee described dialogue as the most effective way to resolve conflicts and advance societies. He also highlighted the Kurdistan Region’s long tradition of coexistence among different ethnic and religious communities.
The event formed part of the annual International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations. The United Nations General Assembly established the observance in 2024 after a proposal from China to promote cultural diversity, mutual respect, and equal dialogue in addressing global challenges.
