The Kurdistan Regional Government’s Ministry of Trade is changing the wheat collection process and replacing the old manual system with a fully electronic process. Officials say this reform aims to improve efficiency and reduce problems at silo centers across the region.
The Ministry of Trade and Industry is preparing a new plan that requires farmers to pre-register before delivering wheat. This digital system will become the only accepted method for wheat delivery. Authorities say it will reduce long queues at silos, organize delivery times better, and help farmers receive payments more smoothly.
Nawzad Sheikh Kamil, Director General of Trade at the ministry, explained that the system will operate through the Telegram application. Farmers must register before harvest season and enter details such as the amount of wheat they plan to deliver and their preferred delivery time. He confirmed that silos will reject any wheat deliveries that come outside the digital system.
Each farmer must open a personal Telegram account and complete registration. The system only accepts farmers whose names already appear in official records and whose cultivated land has been registered. After registration, the system issues each farmer a unique identification code.
Before wheat collection, farmers send their code through Telegram to the silo administration. They also confirm the quantity of wheat and request an appointment. The silo then assigns a specific date and time. Farmers must follow this schedule and deliver their wheat exactly at the assigned time.
Officials expect the new system to reduce overcrowding at silos and lower transport costs. It also aims to eliminate wasted time caused by waiting in long lines.
Some concerns remain about farmers in rural areas who may lack education or smartphones. Nawzad Sheikh Kamil said they can still participate by asking a family member or trusted person with access to Telegram to complete the registration and appointment process on their behalf.
