A senior advisor to the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) said foreign investor confidence in the Kurdistan Region has increased. He linked this growth to recent reforms and stronger global engagement.
Saman Sorani, Advisor for Political and Diplomatic Affairs at the KRG Department of Foreign Relations, made the comments. He spoke as Prime Minister Masrour Barzani arrived in Switzerland for the World Economic Forum in Davos.
Additionally, Sorani said the Prime Minister’s high-level participation shows the Region’s growing international role. He described the Davos visit as more than a formal appearance. He said it reflects the Kurdistan Region’s political identity and economic potential.
Moreover, Sorani said the KRG is taking part in the forum as a “state-like actor within the framework of federal Iraq.” He explained that the Region aims to protect its independent economic voice while respecting Iraq’s constitutional structure. Through direct engagement in Davos, the KRG seeks to project stability and reliability to global partners.
Therefore, a key part of this strategy is the Kurdistan House in Davos. Sorani said the venue now serves as an effective platform for global outreach. It allows Kurdish officials to present economic projects directly to investors. It also gives international stakeholders a clear view of the Region’s investment climate.
Furthermore, Sorani stressed that investor trust is not based on diplomacy alone. He said real domestic reforms play a major role. He highlighted sector digitization as a key step. According to him, digitization has improved transparency and simplified business procedures.
He also pointed to the Runaki (Light) Project. Sorani said the project, along with wider infrastructure development, proves the government’s commitment to growth. These efforts, he said, have changed how foreign investors view the Region.
“Trust is a fundamental pillar for production,” Sorani said. He added that higher trust leads to stronger economic output.
Sorani described the Davos forum as a major opportunity. He said it allows the KRG to strengthen existing ties and build new ones. The presence of world leaders, he added, helps open doors for future cooperation.
The KRG believes that reform at home and visibility abroad now work together. This approach, officials say, is reshaping investor confidence in the Kurdistan Region.
