The Akre View tourism project continues to reshape Akre as the Kurdistan Region pushes for stronger tourism growth. Work on the $150 million project has now reached 20%. Officials expect full completion within seven years.
Therefore, the site covers 446 dunams in the center of Akre district. Developers plan the work in four phases. The Akre View tourism project includes hotels, restaurants, parks, an entertainment city, a teleferic line, and a zoological garden. These features create a full tourism destination with modern services and new attractions.
Project supervisor Hatem Henarei said progress remains steady. He added that every phase strengthens Akre’s tourism foundations. Moreover, officials believe the Akre View tourism project fills long-standing gaps in the district’s tourism sector.
Akre Tourism Director Amin Salim said the project supports a clear vision. He explained that the plan addresses all infrastructure weaknesses. He noted that the completed project will elevate Akre as a strong regional destination.
Projections show major economic benefits. The Akre View tourism project will generate between 3,500 and 5,000 jobs. It will host up to 2,000 visitors at once. These gains will boost local businesses and increase Akre’s tourism revenue.
Akre already attracts thousands of visitors each year. The town’s green mountains and rich heritage draw crowds during events such as Newroz. The Kurdistan Regional Government continues to promote tourism as a key economic sector. Therefore, investment in Akre remains a major priority.
The region’s international profile also continues to grow. Condé Nast Traveler recently named Erbil one of the “Best Places to Go in Asia in 2026.” The magazine praised the city’s calm atmosphere, natural beauty, and cultural depth. This recognition aligns with the goals of Visit Kurdistan, a tourism program formed in 2025. The program aims to attract 20 million visitors by 2030.
Erbil’s development boom supports this momentum. New projects such as Erbil Avenue have brought global brands like Gordon Ramsay’s Street Burger and EL&N London. The United States will soon open its largest consulate worldwide in an Erbil suburb. A Real Madrid youth academy is also underway.
Historic sites also see major restoration. The Erbil Citadel has reopened restored sections. Plans continue for a boutique hotel and restaurant there. Cultural landmarks such as the Kurdish Textile Museum and the Cihan Cultural House draw daily visitors. The iconic Choli Minaret will also receive long-awaited repairs.
Condé Nast Traveler encourages visitors to explore Erbil slowly. It highlights tea houses, cafés, bars, and the lively streets of Ankawa. The magazine also notes the strong hospitality of local residents.
Within this expanding tourism landscape, the Akre View tourism project stands as a crucial pillar. Its completion will strengthen Akre’s role in the Kurdistan Region’s long-term cultural and economic growth. It will also expand the district’s ability to host local and global visitors.
