The Erbil Water Emergency Project is entering a decisive stage. Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw announced that the second phase will be completed within two months. He confirmed that work on the third phase will follow immediately.
Omed Khoshnaw explained that many neighborhoods and villages will benefit from this stage. The areas between the 120-meter and 150-meter streets stand first in line. Ankawa, 32nd Park, Kurani Ankawa, Bahrka, Gardjutyar, and Seberdan will all receive new water supplies. He added that many other neighborhoods will also gain access.
The Erbil Water Emergency Project requires an investment of about $480 million. According to Khoshnaw, the project will finish in less than 550 days. He stressed that this initiative will fully solve Erbil’s water shortage.
Teams already completed the first phase in less than a year. That stage delivered clean water to 20 neighborhoods. Khoshnaw noted that the second phase will end in November and extend coverage to more districts.
When completed, the project will provide 20,000 cubic meters of water per hour. This amount doubles the combined capacity of the three older projects, which supplied only 10,000 cubic meters per hour. Governor highlighted that the increased production will secure Erbil’s water supply for decades.
Technicians will filter and purify the water to international standards. They will ensure households receive safe and reliable access. Omed Khoshnaw emphasized that the system would meet the city’s growing demand.
