Erbil-Yerevan flights are set to resume, marking a fresh milestone in Armenia–Kurdistan Region relations. On Sunday, Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw welcomed Armenian Consul General Rafael Movsisyan at the governorate building. The visit also included Deputy Consul Christopher Ara Agup Baberyan.
Governor Omed Khoshnaw congratulated Movsisyan on his new diplomatic post. He reaffirmed Erbil’s strong ties with the Armenian community. He said the diaspora enjoys full rights and participation as part of Erbil society. The governor also welcomed the decision to restart Erbil-Yerevan flights.
During the meeting, Omed Khoshnaw emphasized that direct air connectivity plays a vital role in boosting diplomatic, economic, and cultural cooperation. He said these flights would ease travel and expand business opportunities for both sides.
In response, Consul General Movsisyan praised the stability and development taking place in Erbil. He expressed appreciation for the respect shown to the Armenian minority. He also called for broader collaboration in culture, art, and tourism.
Both parties discussed launching new initiatives to encourage people-to-people contact. They agreed that cultural exchange programs, exhibitions, and joint festivals could help deepen mutual understanding. Movsisyan stressed that Erbil-Yerevan flights would serve as a cornerstone for such efforts.
Moreover, the two sides committed to facilitating business visits and official delegations. They pointed out that faster travel would encourage trade, investment, and educational partnerships. The Armenian Consulate also signaled interest in supporting joint ventures in tourism and heritage preservation.
