The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is advancing plans to establish three automobile manufacturing projects in partnership with Chinese companies. The move aims to expand industrial capacity, attract more investment, and diversify the region’s economy.

Pshtiwan Hama Saeed, Director General of Industrial Cities and Zones, said that three Chinese firms plan to begin operations in the Kurdistan Region’s automotive sector soon.

He said the projects will support economic growth and create new jobs as the region continues to attract foreign investors.

According to Hama Saeed, foreign investment in the Kurdistan Region has reached $11 billion across 54 projects in different sectors. He said the figure reflects growing investor confidence in the region.

Officials linked the new projects to the rising popularity of Chinese vehicles in the Kurdistan Region. This demand encouraged Chinese companies to explore local production opportunities.

The projects include one plant for electric vehicle production and two facilities focused on assembling automotive parts and components.

Hama Saeed confirmed that authorities have already approved the two assembly plants. Officials are now allocating land and selecting suitable project sites.

The Kurdistan Region has gradually expanded its industrial sector over the past decade. Authorities have worked to reduce reliance on oil by supporting broader manufacturing activity.

Government plans show that the region now hosts dozens of industrial zones and business parks. These sites support manufacturing, infrastructure, and logistics projects.

Officials have prioritized industries such as construction materials, food processing, energy, and light manufacturing. In recent years, they have also increased their focus on automotive assembly and technology-related industries.

Investment laws and incentives have helped attract international companies, especially from China, Turkey, and Gulf countries.

Hama Saeed said the new factories could meet local demand and eventually serve regional export markets. He added that the projects will create significant job opportunities, especially for young workers, while strengthening industrial infrastructure across the Kurdistan Region.
