Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Thursday inaugurated the elevated bridge and 40-meter dual-carriageway in Soran, calling the project a major milestone for infrastructure development in the Kurdistan Region.
The ceremony marked the completion of one of Soran’s largest transport projects. The new road and bridge will improve traffic flow, strengthen road links, and support public services.
During the event, Barzani said he was pleased to return to Soran for the opening of a project planned several years ago. He said the development now serves residents in Soran and nearby districts.
Barzani stressed that the Kurdistan Regional Government continued development projects despite regional challenges and instability.
“Life continues at every moment,” he said. He added that authorities kept infrastructure work moving even during the war against ISIS.
Moreover, he said the government remains committed to improving services in all sectors. He also promised to continue launching projects in the coming years.
The Prime Minister congratulated the people of Soran and the wider Kurdistan Region on the project’s completion. He described it as part of a wider strategy to improve roads and transport networks.
Barzani thanked Kavin Group for completing the project. He praised local expertise and highlighted the role of domestic companies in major infrastructure projects.
During his speech, Barzani also addressed recent drowning incidents in the region. He offered condolences to the victims’ families and thanked civil defense teams for their rescue efforts.
He urged citizens to follow safety guidelines near rivers and hazardous areas.
Barzani briefly commented on political developments in Baghdad. He said he hopes Iraq will soon form a new federal government.
He also stressed the importance of protecting the Kurdistan Region’s constitutional rights.
The Prime Minister repeated calls to activate the Kurdistan Parliament and speed up government formation.
Officials view the Soran project as part of a broader economic strategy. The government aims to strengthen tourism, trade, and infrastructure through such projects.
Authorities believe better roads and bridges will attract visitors, encourage private investment, create jobs, and strengthen Soran’s role as a tourism hub in the Kurdistan Region.
